Vairak Saules

Vairak Saules is a chain of restaurants with locations all around Riga. They are normally clean and pleasant.

The first time I ate there I made the mistake of having pizza. It was one of the worst pizzas I have ever had in my life and could not eat it all. Now I usually have a fresh stir fry dish. All the ingredients are fresh and tasty. Stir fry dishes average about 7 Euro or $10 USD. Portions are adequate for all but the most hearty eaters.

I find some of the “Bavarian” type dishes are also tasty. If you live in the Riga area it is worth getting their loyalty card. Once a month they offer 50% off the entire menu for members. This brings the price to normal for Latvia.

Service is fine by Latvian standards. The staff are pleasant and responsive. Do not expect anyone to ask you how your meal is or if you need anything more. That aspect of restaurant customer service is not yet understood in Latvia.

We sat at our table for an additional 45 minutes speaking after our meal was finished and no one came over to ask if we would like something to drink or some desert. I would say the wait staff needs a bit of training on sales.
